Sean Currid
Chef de Cuisine at ZuZu

Over the last fifteen years, Sean Currid has honed his skills in the culinary industry around the Phoenix area. His cooking style falls under contemporary American cuisine, complemented with classic French techniques.

Sean was born and raised in Thousand Oaks, California. In his teens, his family moved to El Paso, Texas. One of his first jobs in the state was as a dishwasher and short order cook. It was at this job that his interest in cooking grew. Shortly after graduating from high school, Sean decided to take cuisine seriously. He relocated to Phoenix to attend the Scottsdale Culinary Institute and graduated in 1997.

Sean started his professional career at JW Marriott’s Camelback Inn while attending culinary school. Upon graduation, he continued to work there for the next four years. He moved through the ranks of the restaurants at the resort and was finally promoted to banquet chef. Under his direction, the resort received the Gold Platter Award by Meeting & Conventions magazine.

After his time at the Camelback Inn, Sean went to work at Michael’s at the Citadel, and later elements at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain, where he worked with Chefs Beau MacMillan and Charles Wiley. He was then offered a position at Mary Elaine’s at The Phoenician and worked with James Beard Award winner, Chef Bradford Thompson. Over the next two years, he immersed himself in the restaurant and refined his cooking techniques. In 2005, Sean once again worked with Chef Wiley, another James Beard-recognized chef, to re-open Hotel Valley Ho. His current role is Chef de Cuisine of ZuZu at the hotel.

In 2010, Sean was named one of “The Valley’s Top Five Sous Chefs” by AZ magazine. He continues to participate in charity fundraisers and to team with local farmers for ZuZu’s seasonal menu changes. He has been executing ZuZu’s acclaimed Monday Night Chef’s Tables since they started four years ago, and has also had the privilege of assisting Chef Charles Wiley in New York at The James Beard House, where they represented ZuZu.
